2026 Jack O’Donnell Award Recipient for Community Service - Corbett Coots
Congratulations to Corbett Coots on being named the 2026 Jack O’Donnell Award for Community Service recipient!
Corbett Coots
Corbett Coots exemplifies a lifelong commitment to service rooted in family, hard work, and a deep love for Wooster. Coots began giving back at a young age by working alongside his father, Bret Defibaugh, learning the value of responsibility, humility, and community involvement through hands-on work.
Coots has spent 30 years with Bowman Beverage, a family business built on service and strong community ties. Inspired by his parents’ example, he actively supports local schools, particularly the Wooster City School District, and is passionate about ensuring youth have access to opportunities regardless of financial barriers. He coached St. Mary basketball for 15 years and continues to support youth development on and off the court.
His volunteer efforts include working with organizations such as the YMCA, O’Huddle, Wayne County Humane Society, Wooster Exchange Club, and West View Manor. He also helps lead Bowman Beverage’s annual 5-0 Cookout, a beloved community tradition that brings together local families and first responders. Whether fundraising for athletic facilities, supporting community initiatives, or contributing behind the scenes, Coots prefers to be boots on the ground, serving wherever there is a need.
The Wooster Area Chamber of Commerce has played a meaningful role in his journey by providing connection, guidance, and a network of community-minded leaders. Receiving the Jack O’Donnell Award is a humbling honor, particularly since his father received the same award seven years ago. He credits his father, Bret, as his greatest influence, along with the continued support of his wife of 27 years, Amanda, daughter Alyssa, and close mentor Gil Ning. Coots also notes that his mother, Deb, still works alongside him every day and is the heart and soul behind the scenes at Bowman Beverage.
Through years of community involvement and relationship building, Coots has seen the power of collaboration firsthand. “I now understand what it means to have resources at your fingertips and others like you who want you to succeed as much as you want them to,” he said. His hope is to inspire others, especially young people, to care for the community they call home and continue the cycle of giving back.
The Jack O’Donnell Award Recipient for Community Service is presented annually to an individual in memory of former Chamber President, Jack O’Donnell. In recognition of his or her contributions to the community through their volunteerism, enthusiasm and love for Wooster.
