The Wooster Area Chamber of Commerce and the BWC Division of Safety & Hygiene co-sponsor the Wooster Area Safety Council program to provide a forum for safety and health information, education and networking in our community.  The council, made up of local companies, is organized by the Chamber and meets monthly to examine and resolve potential and existing safety problems.  They inform participants about new techniques, products and services and provide a thorough knowledge of these services.  Refer to the document below to view more about the employer's responsibility as part of the Group-Rating Safety Accountability program.

Wooster Area Safety Council Awards

Members in the Wooster Area Safety Council are able to participate in the BWC Safety Campaign.  Companies with the highest safety records during the year are honored at an annual awards luncheon.  Member companies are divided into groups according to business classifications, hazards of their operation and/or according to the number of employee hours worked.  Companies submit a semi-annual report based on the Record Keeping Requirements under the Occupational Safety & Health Act of 1970.

The Division of Safety & Hygiene presents certificates of awards to qualifying companies in the following categories:

  • Group Award - to the company with the lowest incident rate in each group.

  • 100% Award - to the company that works the entire year without a lost-time injury or illness.

  • Achievement Award - to the company that decreases its incident rate by at least 25% from the previous year.

  • Special Award - to each company that accumulates at least 500,000 hours and at least six months without a lost-time injury.
